About Me

I’m Zachary Wu, a student at the University of Washington studying Applied Mathematics and Informatics. My work centers on building end-to-end data products for sports teams, from the underlying predictive models to the production web tools.
I specialize in the intersection of sports analytics, machine learning, and full-stack software engineering. My background spans developing internal scouting and tracking tools for the Washington Nationals, engineering TrackMan pipelines and Machine Learning models for UW Baseball, and building scalable full-stack applications with React, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, and SQL.
Combining a double major in Applied Math and Informatics with leadership experience as a UW Computer Science Teaching Assistant, I pair mathematical modeling (Python, R, XGBoost) with full-stack execution (JavaScript, React, Rails, SQL) to create intuitive solutions for modern front offices and athletic programs.

- Engineered full-stack web applications for the Baseball Systems department using Ruby on Rails and Vue.js, centralizing player acquisition and trade tracking for the front office.
- Developed responsive frontend interfaces with Tailwind CSS and JavaScript to visualize complex hitter mechanics, empowering the scouting department to evaluate player swing profiles more efficiently.
- Deployed new scouting and tracking features by partnering directly with baseball operations to gather technical requirements, delivering intuitive internal tools that support organization-wide evaluation workflows.
- Engineer ETL pipelines using Python and SQL to ingest and clean thousands of ball-tracking data points from Trackman.
- Develop a machine learning Stuff+ model using XGBoost and scikit-learn, conducting feature engineering across pitch-level metrics (velocity, release point, spin, movement profiles) to evaluate player performance independent of outcome.
- Architect full-stack interactive web dashboards and automated post-game reports using React, Node.js, and Tailwind CSS to translate complex spatial metrics into intuitive coach-facing tools
