Hello, I'm Zachary.
I'm a data scientist who transforms complex data into actionable insights.
About Me

I’m Zachary Wu, a double major in Informatics and Applied & Computational Mathematical Sciences (Data Science & Statistics) at the University of Washington, with a strong foundation in data analysis, software development, and product management.
My experience spans from building full-stack applications and optimizing historical research tools to supporting product integration initiatives in industry. I’ve worked with a wide range of technologies including Java, Python, R, JavaScript, SQL, and Node.js and applied them to projects like e-commerce platforms, NBA data analysis, and text compression algorithms.
Beyond technical skills, I bring teaching and leadership experience as a Computer Science Teaching Assistant and coding instructor. I’m passionate about creating innovative, data-driven solutions that bridge technology and real-world impact.

Experience
Collect, clean, and manage large player datasets from TrackMan, 6-4-3 Charts, and Synergy. Apply R, Python, and SQL to perform statistical analysis, build performance metrics, and uncover trends in player development. Create data visualizations and reports to support evidence-based decision-making.
Teach students Java and coding fundamentals in UW's CSE 12X series through lectures, office hours and discussions. Design, grade, and provide feedback on programming assignments, projects, and exams. Support about 500 students and grade about 200 assignments/tests per quarter.
Conducted market and partner research and built out automated forms functionality. Partnered with product and data teams to support and ensure seamless implementation of form functionality. Built and pathed 60% of all questionnaires and application forms to streamline application process.
Contributed to the analysis of 19th-century Middle Eastern diaries through social network analysis, topic modeling and distant reading. Utilized Node.js, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to improve website performance and user experience. Extended the Rivermap site, adding functionality and increasing user accessibility.
Taught coding languages including Python and Java, with a focus on introductory machine learning, data structures and algorithms. Led classes of 10 students aged 8-15 through a variety of activities, lessons and discussions. Equipped over 100 students with foundational programming skills for continued learning.
Hired as a student leader to provide assistance to non-profit organizations. Single-handedly organized multiple concerts in outdoor venues throughout Seattle. Organized and led around 110 students my age or older throughout various projects, activities and events.
Award-winning, student-led youth leadership program which works at National Park Sites. Hired as a student leader to find ways to engage youth with surrounding National Parks. Delivered weekly projects which required skills such as graphic design, creative writing and critical thinking.
